Presented at: MultiCore Expo 2008, on April 1-3, 2008 at Santa Clara, CA.

Abstract: Victoria Falls is the next evolution of multicore, multi-threaded SPARC System-on-a-chip. In this presentation we will discuss how VF was implemented and how its design decisions affect the OS and applications. Multicore SMP performance issues including OS and application scaling and NUMA effects will also be covered. We will also focus on the classes of applications that are a best fit for these highly threaded servers and how to scale them for optimal performance. Virtualization and consolidation are essential for the utilization of multicore servers and these will be also be discussed in detail.
