Aeroflex Gaisler AB has announced its LEON processor now supports LynxOS, an embedded RTOS from from LynuxWorks. A port, a board support package and a demonstration application are now available for the GNU based SW development environment.

"LynxWorks leadership in real-time operating systems for mission critical applications makes them an ideal partner for us," said Jiri Gaisler, CTO of Aeroflex Gaisler. "All RTOS components within LynxOS are designed for absolute determinism (i.e.: hard real-time performance). This means that they absolutely must respond within a known period of time. This predictable response is ensured even in the presence of heavy I/O due to the kernel's unique threading model, enabling interrupt routines to be extremely short and fast."

The LEON3 is a 32-bit SPARC V8 processor for cost sensitive embedded system applications, so that embedded system designers can replace 8/16 bit microcontroller/processor with this 32 bit microcontroller/processor. The processor is available as a soft core for instantiations into both FPGAs and ASICs. The LEON3 processor is targeted at space, military, industrial and consumer electronics applications, such as satellites, digital set top boxes, and industrial power control devices.

"We are pleased to support Aeroflex Gaisler and the LEON3 processor," commented Steve Blackman, Director of Business Development at LynuxWorks. "The LEON3 processor, which is available in source code, provides high performance and flexibility that meets the demands of any System on Chip design. The fault tolerant version delivers capabilities to protect against soft errors which are required for military and aerospace applications."

Availability
LynxOS is available under license from LynxWorks. The LEON3 port and the BSP are available under license from Aeroflex Gaisler.
